What Screen Recorder Lite Does

Built with precision to solve real problems without adding complexity.

Screen, Window, or Tab

The browser's built in picker lets you choose exactly what gets recorded. No setup, no scope creep.

No Time Limit

Record for 30 seconds or 3 hours. The only cap is your disk space.

No Watermark

The output WebM is yours. No vendor logo overlaid on the video.

Optional Microphone

One toggle in the popup mixes your mic into the recording. Off by default.

Saves Straight to Downloads

On stop, the file lands in your Downloads folder. No share dialog, no upload screen, no account.

Zero Network

No outbound requests. No analytics. No remote code. The captured video never leaves your device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Every feature is free. No premium tier. No ads.
MP4 (H.264) when your browser supports it (Chrome 130+, Edge). WebM (VP9) on older browsers and Firefox. The file extension matches what is inside. MP4 opens in QuickTime, iMovie, Premiere, Final Cut without conversion. WebM plays in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and VLC.
No. Record as long as you want. The only constraint is disk space.
No. The file is saved to your Downloads folder via the browser. It never leaves your machine.
Yes, with one catch. For Chrome Tab capture, tab audio is included by default. For Entire screen or Window capture, you have to tick the Also share system audio checkbox at the bottom of the browser's picker. It is off by default. A microphone toggle in the popup adds your mic on top of that. On macOS, system audio capture only works for Tab captures (browser limitation). On Firefox, system and tab audio cannot be captured at all, so the microphone toggle is the only way to add sound.
Screenity has more features (editing, GIF export, annotations). This one is smaller, with just the record and save path. Pick Screenity if you need the extras.
Most likely the Also share system audio checkbox at the bottom of the browser's picker was off. It is off by default for Entire screen and Window captures. Tick it before clicking Share. Tab captures include tab audio automatically. On macOS, full-screen and window captures cannot include system audio at all (browser limitation). Pick Tab if you need system audio on a Mac. On Firefox there is no Also share system audio checkbox and no computer or tab audio at all, only the microphone toggle in the popup.
On Firefox the recorder opens in a normal browser tab, not a small floating window, because Firefox blocks screen capture from popup windows. Click Start, then pick a screen, window, or tab in Firefox's share dialog and click Allow. If you cancel that dialog or pick nothing, no recording starts and the Stop button has nothing to stop. Firefox saves a WebM and cannot capture computer or tab audio, so turn on the microphone toggle first if you want sound.
Screen recording is CPU heavy, especially at 4K or on Retina displays. Close other tabs and apps, then try again. Recording a single window or tab instead of the entire screen is much lighter.
Your browser saved a WebM (you are likely on Firefox or older Chrome). QuickTime and iMovie do not read WebM. Open it in VLC (free) or drag the file into a Chrome tab to play it. Free WebM-to-MP4 converters online work too.
First time you record with the mic toggle on, your browser asks for microphone permission. If you missed the prompt or denied it, open chrome://settings/content/microphone (or edge://, about:preferences#privacy on Firefox) and allow the extension. Reload the recorder window and try again.
Your browser's default Downloads folder. The filename starts with recording- followed by the date and time, ending in .mp4 or .webm. After you click Stop, the recorder window shows a Show in folder button that opens the exact location.
